This really isn't going to come up later, so it's an easy promise to make, and whether or not Jack has a strict timetable to keep to or that he's aware of it, they're still losing time. They need to go and now. He needs to be there for the crash to get the Alcorn papers out of the car. He needs to know that Jack wasn't in there, period, that nothing went wrong.
